Butter-y, tomato-y goodness. Is there any better combination? This is my special occasion, not so healthy celebratory go-to sauce. It’s sooo good and sooo easy! The smell of it alone is drool inducing! It’s like a warm hug for your tummy and an out-of-this-world treat for your taste buds. It really takes me to my happy place.
The best part of this sauce? It’s super easy to make and only has 3 ingredients. It seriously takes no time to prepare. You open 3 cans, peel one onion and cut it in half. Put it in a pot and add vegan butter. And that’s it!
And that’s why I love to prepare this when we have people over to celebrate special occasions. I generally use it to make my Ultimate Spaghetti and Meatballs recipe. It’s one of my very favorites.
To kick this sauce up a notch, I sometimes add about 1/2 tsp of maple syrup or agave, a pinch of sea salt and about a tsp of dried basil. Fresh basil is also great if you have it on hand. Toss it with pasta and top with with Creamy Vegan Parmesan Cheese.

Enjoy this butter-y tomato sauce on any type of pasta. It’s an easy and delicious recipe to throw together when you have guests. Top with Creamy Vegan Parmesan Cheese for a little bite of heaven. Will leave you and your guests wanting more!

- 3 Cans of stewed tomatoes (I use 3- 540 ml cans for a total of 1620 ml)
- 10 tbsp. Non-dairy butter substitute (vegan margarine or butter)
- 1 Large or 2 medium peeled, halved onions
- Sea salt to taste
- In a medium saucepan, place first 3 ingredients.
- Simmer on medium heat for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
- With an immersion blender or blender, blend until silky smooth.
- Add sea salt to taste.
